Columpio

David Dávila, 2023

Industrial Design Workshop / Pratt Institute

Columpio is a sculptural structure composed of a suspended stone held within a three-legged metal frame. Despite its weight, the stone appears to float, creating a visual tension between mass, gravity, and suspension.

When activated by the viewer, the work responds through subtle oscillations that momentarily transform the stone from a heavy object into something unexpectedly light and dynamic. By combining raw materials with a minimal structural system, Trapecio explores how simple interventions can alter the experience of weight, movement, and space.
